There are a lot of people who are fairly new to the world of woodwick candles. So, I thought I'd share some helpful information so you're able to give your candle the love & care it needs. Woodwick candles are unique. They give off a little crackle when they burn, providing a cozy and ambient atmosphere. Proper care and maintenance helps ensure that your woodwick candle burns cleanly and efficiently. Here's some steps to properly care for your woodwick candle:
-
Trim the wick: Before lighting the candle for the first time, trim the wick between 1/8 & 1/4 inch using either a wick trimmer or nail clippers. This helps to create a controlled and even burn. Now I have been trimming the wicks for your convenience, that way you're able to get right to enjoying your candle. You are also to trim the wick before each lighting to prevent excessive smoke and soot. And that is as simple as trimming the charred bits off the wick. Some people like to just break it off with their finger, but personally I use my wick trimmer.
-
Burn your candle for a sufficient time: To prevent tunneling, which is when the candle burns down the center and leaves wax along the edges, ensure that the woodwick candle burns long enough to create a full melt pool. This means allowing the entire top layer of wax to melt evenly, which not only prevents uneven burning but also ensures you get the full, true scent of your candle. The wax pool and the wood wick work together to disperse the fragrance, with the melt pool releasing the essential oils and the wick ensuring a steady, even burn, filling your space with the candle's beautiful aroma.
-
Avoid drafts: Woodwick candles perform best in still air. Avoid placing them near open windows, fans, or air vents that could create a draft. Drafts can cause uneven burning, flickering flames, and excessive smoke.
-
Keep your candle clean: Regularly clean the area around the woodwick candle to remove dust and debris that may fall into the wax. This ensures a cleaner burn and prevents any foreign objects from interfering with the wick or flame. Also, keep wick trimmings out of the wax as well.
-
Store your candle properly: When not in use, store your candle in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Extreme temperatures and exposure to sunlight can affect the quality and scent of the candle.
